About the Role 

The Theatre Services Assistant role is responsible for providing support to the Theatre Suite team, and is responsible for providing optimum cleanliness, hygiene, and overall presentation standards, in the theatre suite area.

This role is responsible for handling sensitive material such as blood and human tissue and transporting/mobilising patients in theatre.

We have two permanent roles available. One role is offered at 30 hours per week to be worked on a rotating roster Monday-Friday. Shifts will be 6 hours in duration and will fall between the hours of 7.30am-7pm. 

The other role is a permanent, part time role offered at 20 hours per week to be worked between 3pm-7pm, Monday-Friday. 

Specific duties include: 

  • Ensure Theatre changeover cleaning is completed to the required standard to meet audit expectations
  • All patient transportation is undertaken in a safe, timely and professional manner
  • Maintaining supplies to ensure the efficient running of the theatre unit
  • Ensure items for procedures are collected for the following day’s lists
  • Ensure general tidiness of the area during the working day.

Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar role would be advantageous but not necessary 
  • Previous cleaning experience is essential 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and time management 
  • Enthusiasm and a proactive, flexible attitude.

To be eligible for employment at Mercy Hospital Dunedin, applicants must have received all COVID 19 vaccinations, or have an exemption from the Ministry of Health. Proof of this will be required and conditional to employment, as per the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) order 2021.
